I could have returned them but the SDOTD prices were so good ($300 and $325 for $500 guitars) and they sound so good that I kept them. I'm perfectly happy both guitars sound fantastic and possibly more "classic" than those with the MFDs. They're not trying to deceive anyone, their prices are lower than what the others charge for the "standard" models and the pics and description all show the actual pickups that are in the guitars, if I hadn't checked the G&L website I wouldn't have known the difference.
The SEs are not shown on the G&L website, as you would expect. I'd checked them out on the G&L website where they have the MFD pickups but their SEs come with the less-expensive CLF Alnico models. I bought two G&L ASATs that were MF SDOTDs. I own a few GC/MF SE guitars (one Epi, one Gretsch and two G&L) and they are fantastic and great value but I was surprised that two have less expensive pickups than what their "standard" models have. I don't want to discourage you from buying an amp you like and one that will probably be rare in the future. You seem to be concerned that a GC special edition may be somehow less than the regular model.
